How to clean bird toys

Cleaning Toys

This past weekend I had a question about cleaning the toys. There are certain things you should not use when cleaning toys. (soaps that are intended for the body because of residues, cleaners for counters and bathrooms, bleach is hard to rinse off, anything that is hard to rinse off is best left out of toy and cage cleaning) play it safe and use something natural or just old fashion really hot water and elbow grease! Never use anything with toxic fumes around your birds.

If its wood or leather the best thing is to use a damp cloth to remove poop and food you can use a little Grapefruit extract if you need to kill germs. Plastic toys can be cleaned in the dishwasher if they have no metal parts or if the metal parts on them are stainless steel. Using a rag and some Grapefruit seed extract would be good here as well. You can also use Apple Cider Vinegar to wipe down cages and toys rinse it off because your whole room will smell like vinegar. I use to use vinegar all the time until i found Grapefruit seed extract. Doesn't smell at all!

The toys you buy from BirdToys.com are clean and kept in sealed containers the only thing that comes in contact with them once they get to me is ME. I make most toys once they are ordered and I put them directly into a sealed bag and then into the box to be shipped. You can be assured you are getting a clean toy everytime! If i make toys up in advanced they are sealed in bags and then stored in sealed storage containers until they are shipped.

I just got done steam cleaning the cages and boy was that a job i thought steam cleaning would be cooler than draging them outside to spray them off being its 97 degrees with a 115 heat index and its just noon! So HOT! Well i have purchased 2 steam cleaners to clean cages and I just am not impressed! Its not easy it doesn't do that great of a job in my opinion. Maybe i am doing something wrong because I always seem to have a bigger mess afterwards. Nothing beats pressure washing them with a hose outside! A pain yes! Having to remove all the toys and drag the heavy things outside and then having to dry them before you bring them back in! Not fun but I have not found an easier way to do it. Keeping the cages clean is an important part in keeping your birds healthy! Its hard but i has to be done. Nothing wrong with trying to find an easy way to do it as long as it works!
